You had Marilyn Monroe in the 50s and Raquel Welch in the 60's. Farrah Fawcett in the 70's and the Golden Girls in the 80's. Pamela Anderson in the 90's and maybe that chick from "The Hills" now. Our celebrity crush? Ah, yes, it was the great Meredith Salenger in the late 1980's.

Anyways, about two weeks ago, the blog stumbled upon a way to contact Salenger after finding an e-mail address. It was a blast from the past. Sure, Meredith was our No. 1, but we hadn't really thought about her for a few years. We weren't sure it was going to work, but we had to try an e-mail. What could be a better blog item than this?

The blog composed an e-mail to Salenger, and hit the send button. We went with the truth no matter how bad it sounded. We told her about the blog, and asked if she'd be willing to give an interview for a blog story...

We eagerly wanted to open up Salenger's response. But, we first took some time to guess what we thought she was going to say. There was no reason to open up the e-mail and have all the excitement be over in a matter of a few seconds. You've got to spread the wealth out a little.

The moment of truth finally arrived, with all our hopes and dreams contained in one e-mail. We clicked on it. Staring back was Meredith in her own words. "Umm, sure why not?" she wrote. "You e-mail the questions? Or we chat on the phone?" We added that whatever was easier for her - to answer an e-mail or do an interview by phone - was fine by us. In truth, we were totally hoping for the phone call.

The blog ended its e-mail with a parting shot, "By the way, I'm putting my full trust in you that you are indeed Meredith Salenger," we wrote. "I would hate to be printing a bogus interview." Behind the scenes, the blog had let a few people in on what was going on. One of them was T-Roz, who refused to believe it was Salenger. Anyways, it wasn't long before Salenger wrote back. "I am flattered that you think somebody might want to impersonate me," she said.

We admitted yesterday it was a risky move. There was a good chance she had gotten busy and was going to call us, and we might have blown it. Lucky for us, she dug it. "HAHAHAHA. OK. You won't have to write that, but I must say that was very creative," Salenger wrote. "I will try calling in a few days. Been very busy with family stuff. Forgive me." We know what you're thinking, and you're right. We had this girl hooked.

On Sunday, a week deep into this adventure, the blog was feeling good. We knew she wouldn't call on a Sunday, and she didn't. When Monday rolled around and there still was no call, we were fine. We knew it was going to happen. She'd promised us.

On Tuesday, around 1 p.m., a call came in. The call. I answered, and nobody said anything. Then, out of nowhere, it happened. "Scott, Meredith Salenger," the voice said. If there was even a small doubt about whether this was bogus, it was gone. I knew that voice. It was Salengers'.

"We all know that you're very good-looking and talented," I said. "Most people would think this girl is going to be married by the time she is 28 because she's going to have a whole bunch of people to pick from. How does that not happen?"

"It happens because I pick crazy people who are drug addicts and alcoholics and make bad choices," she said. "There is a while there where I only dated actors, which is ridiculous. You shouldn't date an actor. It's hard to find a good guy. In L.A., it's really hard to find someone who is all the things that I want."

"You basically said, and this is a good thing, that you want everything in a guy," I said. "That's not possible."

"I realize that you might not get everything, but what it all boils down to is chemistry," Salenger said. "I've dated the billionaire guy, and I'm like, 'No personality. Don't like you.' I've dated the guy with loads of personality, and zero ambition in life. I just want someone who loves and adores me, who I love and adore."

How do you respond to that? That was a perfect answer, right from the bottom of her big darn heart. Don't lie. You've all started to fall in love with this girl over the past few days, too. But, this is our celebrity crush. Go find your own.
